Thread: List for Baby Boy: Attempt No. 1
June 17th, 2013 12:06 AM #21
Going to try to do this in the same format as the girls. I'll try not to go too overboard, but I do love boy names....
Auberon - oooooh LOVE IT
Endymion - still my number one, by far
FN Likes but not Loves:
Hector - you know I've always had a beef with Hector...besides being so strongly Hispanic, the name itself is so similar to words like "heckler" that I find it unattractive. You have sooooo many more amazing options that you don't need Hector
Laszlo - aside from the horrific children's show about Camp Lazlo, the "lazy" association is unfortunate
Odin - in the normal category by virtue of being a famous and widely known diety
Osiris - see Odin
Perseus - see Odin
Thor - see Odin
Not Normal Middles:
Dragan - I have to say, I love how such a craggy, masculine, draconic name can mean something as gentle and heartwarming as "dear one" and "precious"
Valemon - I LOVE this fairytale! May I also recommend Iorek? I believe Iorek Byrnison and the rest of Pullman's panserbjorne were obliquely inspired by the White Bear King.
Veto Points for Middles:
Bors - surprised to see this on your list...it doesn't strike you as a thuggish sort of name?
Cato - women's clothing store, Inspector Clouseau's ninja foil, and an increasingly popular Hunger Games character...you have far lovelier options
Eglamour - I am immediately reminded of Deadweather and Sunrise, in which the siblings are named Adonis, Venus, and Eggbert. Aphrodite and Eglamour? Darling, you can't.
Finvarra - while I love his connection to the Daoine Sidhe, there is the whole king of the dead thing...and this name is becoming increasingly popular for girls. Perhaps an alternate link to the Tuatha de Danann, like Nuada, Fiachra, Nemed, Dagda, Lugh, or Delbaeth?
Lawrence - of Arabia? You can do better
Mordred - the bastard half-son of Arthur by his sister the sorceress who grows up to bring about the end of Camelot (and whose name sounds like mold and dread and death) ....why....?
Tresillian - all I can find on this is that it's a tiny village in Cornwall and a widely popular birthing center...unless there's some other special significance, I'd go with some of your other options
Vladimir - how Russian of you! I can't remember, is there Russian blood in the family? If not, this one seems a bit out of place.
