When I was in high school, one of my closest friends was a girl of Chinese heritage named Gem (yes, just Gem) and she was one of the brigtest girls I've ever met. Perhaps my experience enables me to picture Gem as a full name. If you don't find a name you like that has been already suggested in the previous posts (Jemima, Gemini, Germaine etc...), then choose Gem. If parents are choosing other word names for their children, why isn't Gem perfectly acceptable?
    All the best,
    Mischa.

I would go with Gem because to me, Jem is a boys name( my uncles). Full names could be

    Gemima
    Gemini
    Gemella

    Good luck!!!

To me Jem is both a boys' name and then there's the "Jem and the Holograms" association.

Gem is lovely as is, I think.
    Latest list:

    Girl: Lulu, Eden
    Boy: Leo, Wallace, Grady

Mommy to one sweet little boy who I loved naming Lennox Andrew Michael (Lex for short)
