Jasper is very popular in my neighbourhood as well and I've never even thought of the Casper association. Frankly, I wouldn't shy away from Casper due to the ghost association, it's nice too.

I absolutely LOVE Jasper, though I dislike its increasing popularity. I know a 5 year old Jasper whose name has never been an issue. He is the only Jasper I've ever met and only the third I've heard of in Australia, though no doubt there's more.
