    I don't think it's a stretch at all. It has the m sound and it has the "in".

    I also wanted to suggest Massa (like Matza without the T sound) I used to know a Melissa who went by this and I always thought it was nice. I think it works for Thomasina!

    I think Minnie works fine. However, I don't think a nickname is inevitable. It is no longer than the hugely popular Isabella.

    I love both Minnie and Tommy as nn's for Thomasina.

    Thanks all! I also thought of Missy and Mia this morning, but I like Minnie better. @boyandgirl: good thought about the Thomasina/Isabella thing! I hadn't thought of that, and it makes me hopeful that a nn isn't inevitable.
