    Like Ruby

We've been struggling with names since we found out that we're having a little girl (actually before!). The one name that I keep coming back to is Ruby. I like that it ends in a 'y' and reminds me of my own name and that it's short and sweet. It also seems to go well with our son's name, Wyatt. Still, I worry that it's harsh and/ or common (our last name starts with S and is pretty much the most common name around).

We have tried out other names but one of us always ends up rejecting them. Some we've considered and let go of are:

    Flora
    Hazel
    Mabel
    Daphne
    Marlowe
    Fiona

So now we're getting close... and we both like Ruby but aren't totally sold. Any suggestions for similar names, unique-ish but not too wild. Middle name will be Alice btw.

    Thanks so much!

Hmmm... Alice is pronounced Alis, which would slur with an S last name (like Smith) to become Alismith. Few people use middle names, so it may not be such a big deal. At the very least, though, I wouldn't put a name ending with an A as the first name (Floralismith... slur-mania), or an S sound (Alexismith). I also wouldn't go for a 1 syllable name... I love Ruby, by the way

Ruby Alice is so sweet. Ruby isn't that popular where I live so I would use it in a heartbeat. When I think of Ruby I think of Stella and Lucy.

Daphne Alice is a great combo! The name Ruby is only two-syllables and needs something a bit longer.
