We're not worried so much as seeking outside opinions and advice.

If you feel like it's not substantial enough you could always add a second middle, though I think it would depend on how long your surname is. It might feel better balanced to have a 2nd middle with a one syllable surname and might feel like too much with a very long surname.

    Malcolm Bee Davidson
    Malcolm Bee Henry Flint
    Olivia/Livia/Livy/Liv : Thessaly/Darah/Bethel : Noelle/Eve
    Benedict/Eli: Jude/Zane: Luke/Darius : Levi/Phineas/Calvin

Our surname is two syllables so I'm feeling like a one syllable middle is well balanced.

I'd love it on a boy! It's a very good idea with very good reasons too!
