Thread: Help With My Top 6!!

Ooooooo. I'm ever so sorry to be the one to point this out...but...Sorin is way, way, way too close to Sauron. I wouldn't use it in a sibling set with other literary names, and definitely not along with other LOTR names. Such a pity, and the combos are so handsome, too. I think I remember helping you with some of the combos awhile back. I wonder if I was unaware of your other literary choices at the time.
Depending on your surname, some types of names just work. My surname ends in -er so that rules out a whole category of names, and begins with T so there goes another set. Ends in N works for us. It turns out that I love tons of boys names that end in N and hardly any on the girls side, so we made ends-in-N a "guy thing" for our family.
On to your combos...which are, overall, quite outstanding, by the way:
Lyra Elizabeth Romilly and Lyra Elizabeth Artemis are both striking, though I think the latter more so. I'm not sure I quite like the vowel-beginning Elizabeth coming next after Lyra though.
Lyra Clarity Susanne -- I like a consonant coming next after Lyra, but not Clarity. Lyra Susanna Romilly would be very pretty.
On the next set, I do prefer Thea but I don't think Althea is really out of place. However if you keep Arwen you might not want to have two names starting with the same letter. I think I would mix up these sets for Thea Maple Celandine. I'm not sure if I like Maple next to Thea; followed up by Susanne it seems too ordinary, but Celandine makes the entire combo more whimsical. I actually like Thea Hermione best but not with Jill at the end; it seems too brief. In Thea Frances Celandine, the end of Frances and beginning of Celandine sound rather "hissy."
I like Arwen Kerensa Jill. Somehow, that unexpected Jill at the end works. Arwen Hermione is wayyyyy too literary.
Poor Sorin, I already discussed this. I do love all three of your combos though, and I know they are all family names which makes them extra special.
Valo is quite handsome. I've never heard it before. All of these combos are great. Even though I'm sweet on Peregrine, I think I like Valo Paladin Bruce the best -- he seems so strong and heroic! -- followed by Valo Heming Stevensgaard and then Valo James Peregrine.
On your other boys' names, I have to agree with Mischa that Ivo has to be out if you have a Valo. Pity, it's one of my favorites, but if he has to go, at least he falls to a good man in Valo. I love Rohan. I'm sorry but I don't care for Merit, and Orrick is a vacuum cleaner here in the U.S. so I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to get over that association.
Out of curiosity, what are some of your other top favorites?

Wow! Such a detailed response saracita. I love it!
Sorin/Sauron: I definitely did not even think of the similarities between the two names. Sorin is technically pronounced more like Sore-EEN, however I am choosing to pronounce it the same as the Scandinavian name Soren, because I think that's the pronunciation most people will use. Sauron I pronounce as SOUR-on, the au sounding like the word loud. I don't think it's close enough to put me off the name Sorin, but I am definitely reconsidering Arwen.
I think Lyra Elizabeth Artemis is slightly my favourite. I agree that the flow isn't right with Lyra Clarity Susanne though. I will have to think of something else for that combo...
I like the sound of Thea Maple Celandine, but I worry that that is way too much nature for one name. Thea Hermione Maple?
Valo is the name I having the hardest time choosing...I love all of the combos too much haha! I ink Rohan is the best fit with the other names - I did not know Orrick was a vacuum cleaner. That's enough to take it off the list.
Some of my other top names:
Elowen - cant use because of last name
Sorcha - love this name but I love Sorin more
Seren - again, love Sorin more
Alba - last name issues
Danae - worried about pronunciation
Emrys - my absolute favourite boys name but can't use because of last name
Any ideas on what I should replace Arwen with?Undecided!!

Oh, that's easy for me. I'd pick Dagny. It took awhile to grow on me, but now I love it (and it's a pity we can't use it because of our surname) and I like the sound of it much better than Arwen. Maybe plug it in to one of your other combos for Dagny Maple Susanne -- and switch the Thea combo to Thea Hermione Lark?
Too bad about Ellowen, that's one of my favorites! Danae would probably just be a headache, you're right. I kind of like Signe, though not as much as Dagny. I know a Scandinavian lady named Pia, might you like that? My Norwegian grandmother's middle name is Iverine and I've always admired it. Apparently it gets some use in Norway though not much anymore...close enough for you though?
Aw, I'm sorry about Emrys too. It's always sad when people can't use their true loves. From the boys side I like Eltanin, but I think Marius is the most wearable.
I've heard Sauron with varying pronunciations -- I do think the OW sound is correct, though I've heard it "soar-on". At any rate, there is a good deal of similarity but it's better to consider it now than later!
