We have a very German family name and would like to possibly honour a Heinz, we may just use it as is but I have recommended to my sister-in-law that Henry is a great option, or Heinz but nicknamed Harry or Hank.

I love these! Magnolia is a front runner for us too, I adore it paired with Irene!

    Here's my current favorite combo

Magnolia Irene, Elijiah Bruce, Reuben Daniel, Naomi Deborah, Josephine Elise, Abraham Jacob

Thoughts? Substitions? Alternatives? Would you switch any of the mns?

I, personally, love my German side. My husband is more of an "American mutt" with some German, but a very Dutch name (Van S....). He thinks anything super-German with our LN will sound too northern European.

But I'm working on convincing him Anneliese is lovely. (BTW, any mn ideas for Anneliese? Anneliese Deborah?)

Anyway, I think it's awesome if you use Heinz! I like either Hank or Harry as a simpler nn.

Thanks, everyone, for comments and suggestions!

All end in A sound – since you don't want rhyming names you can only use one of these
    Elijah
    Obadiah
    Isaiah
    Ezra
    Jedidiah

Christa - This is a different style than any of your other names
    Magnolia**
    Matilda
    Eliza

    Which leaves:
    Abraham
    Nathaniel
Thaddeus – I don't think this is useable
    Ezekiel

    Reuben
    Emerson

    Josephine (Jo, Josie)
    Elizabeth/Eliza
    Mabel (May)
    Margaret (Maisie, Maggie)
    Naomi
Winnifred – I love this name! So glad to see it on someone's list.
Anneliese - This is a different style than any of your other names

    Sib-set
    Winnifred
    Josephine
    Matilda OR Margaret OR Mabel

    Reuben
    Abraham
Ezra - but not with Matilda

Hank or Harry also pair wonderfully with your more vintage sounding girl names.

Since you both like Magnolia so much: Magnolia, Elizabeth and Nathaniel would be a nice sibset or Magnolia, Emerson and Nathaniel. If I had to pick a 3rd girl name I would pick Josephine but it just isn't as pretty as Magnolia.

I think you have to decide which style you like more, biblical or vintage because there isn't a lot of overlap. I'm not going to get into middle names because like you said it's more about honoring someone then about the name itself.

    sarahb.cook, thanks for the insight!

Yeah, there's a bit of a tension between the vintage and Biblical...the problem is that I like plenty of Biblical boy's names, but it's harder to find girls names that are not overly common! Naomi and Elizabeth (Eliza) are the only two I'm considering. And Deborah as a middle.

But I feel like the more odd Biblical names work somehow with vintagey girl names...it's believable to me that a family in 1890 might have both an Ezekiel and a Magnolia, perhaps?
