    Mm. Remember Ermengarde from A Little Princess? Etheldred, Swanhilda, Blodeuwedd... ungainly names deserve love too. But Hildegarde is a whole lotta name. The LD sound is appealing.

    Definitely not a name many would like to have. It is similar to Brunhilda which sounds like it belongs on an ugly old hag (wow that's harsh....)
    I think they might work better in certain places, but definitely not in the US....
    I do get the image of a rather 'large' person when hearing the name.... sorry.

    Your daughter might not feel the same way as you do about the name....Especially if most peoples reactions to the name are not a positive one.
