Thread: Athena? Thoughts?
May 15th, 2013 02:35 PM #1
Currently have Athena as a middle name option. Hubby mentioned it as a first name contender, which made my day! What are your thoughts on Athena as a first name?
I don't care if it is a "big" name, with a lot to live up to, that would never stop me from considering a name and is completely a non-issue for me.

I think it's gorgeous, I'd love to see someone use this. It's secretly on my list for future babas. I think it sounds awesome with Luther, both have the utterly delicious th-sound, and both are strong epic namesakes.
I also like Athene, but of course it depends on if you want the -nuh or -nee ending. My darling Marian Illyria Aphrodite, March 2013 & Little Bunny (a girl!) due 9th of February 2014

I love love love this name. And, it's history. Athena is my absolute favorite greek goddess. I admire you and your hubby though because knowing that I never would have the guts to put this name on an actual child, I named my dog Athena! She's a little border collie and I thought it fit because they're a very very intelligent breed.
Anyway, I think it would be great on a little girl. And I definitely agree that Athena and Luther sound great together!

Yey! Positive feedback. I was worried everybody would say that its pretentious.
I agree with kala_way about the nicknames; I am not a huge fan of any of them. That isn't an overly big deal to me though, I didn't like any of the nicknames for Luther either, and Lulu, has oddly grown on me.
Ottilie, I am drawn to names with the "th" sound in it. I also love that both my name, Cynthia, and Athena have a link with Greek mythology.
mnmemily15, I was surprised to see Athena has been on the SSA top 100 since 1955 and it has been steadily getting more popular! It was ranked 247 in 2012! Anyway, I love border collies! They are such nice dogs!Mama Bear to Serenity (gone January 17th, 2011) and Luther Wolf
