    Henriette, Zarie & Others

    Henriette or Henrietta?
I hate the name Harriet. I don't mind Henrietta. But Henriette? I don't know... I think the nn Honey is gorgeous, and Henriette isn't too frilly. A nice option, maybe?

    Zarie
I saw a post on Appellation Mountain that mentioned this. Does anyone have any info on it? I think it's absolutely beautiful, if it rhymes with Marie. Could be another great Z name, like Zoe or Zelie.

    Lilou
I think it's adorable... Maybe too adorable. Can anyone think of a name that could have this as a nn?

    Louise, Louisa, Eloise, etc.
Does the "wheeze" noise in these names bother anyone else?

    Melusine
I think I'm totally in love with this... I wish so badly that this name had a meaning. Am I crazy? The nn LuLu is too cute!

    Ameline
Discovered this today... Thoughts? Am I the only one who thinks it's a lot prettier than Amelia, and might even be more beautiful than Amelie?

We must have different naming styles because I adore Harriet. I always thought Henrietta sounded lovely and not too frilly, but I heard that in Britain it has a snooty/aristocratic connotation (correct me if I'm wrong)? If you're in the U.S., though, I think it's unfamiliar enough that people don't have any preconceptions about it and I'd assume the same applies for Henriette. The nicknames Henri, Ettie, Etta, etc. are charming.

I love Louise, Louisa, and Eloise. I'm sure there are people out there bothered by the "wheeze" noise, but there's not a single name that doesn't have its detractors. All three of those are beautiful classics. My two cents is that the "wheeze" sound is the least noticeable in Louisa (and for another plus, it has Louisa May Alcott as a namesake). Louise/Louisa have Lulu as a nickname, which isn't Lilou but is close to it!
