Hi, just wondering if anyone else has experienced recurrent miscarriages, and if they've had children afterwards, and how long/how many miscarriages it took to conceive and have a healthy pregnancy. I had two miscarriages early this year (January and early March), so my OBGYN recommended waiting 3 months to try again. We did wait, and got pregnant the first try...but just had another miscarriage a few days ago. So, three in a row. We are meeting with our doctor next week to discuss a plan going forward. I'm just really disheartened and really want another child. We have a 3 year old and had no issues with that pregnancy. Thoughts/advice?Emily Eileen

First of all, I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm sure you must feel like you have been on an emotional roller coaster for the last few months. I don't have first-hand knowledge, but I do know two different ladies that had several mcs between them (one had 3 and the other had 4.) Both of them went on to have healthy children of their own. They each had completely different medical issues causing the mcs, but once the mystery was solved, they were able to have the children they wanted. Good luck to you! I am so sorry for all you've been through! I had one miscarriage (with my first) back in Oct. 2011. It was one of the hardest things I've ever been through and they never could pinpoint a reason. I'm currently pregnant the second time and about to reach 19 weeks, so far so good. Too early to say what will happen of course but we're hopeful. The only thing I can say is that we waited a year. My husband wanted to try again right away and I just wasn't emotionally ready. I knew I wouldn't be able to handle it. So I'd say consider listening to your doctor - or maybe trying to wait even longer?
Another idea of something I did, I went to a perinatal specialist and had a "Pre-Conception" Consultation. It's totally covered by insurance (even mine and mine is lousy) and we spoke to a genetics counselor for about 45 minutes who ruled out a lot of things. Then we spoke with the doctor who also gave us some advice and tips (e.g., he put me on a baby aspirin every day in case it was some particular blood issue that's fairly common and easily treated, he upped my folic acid too) and was generally very reassuring. You can get a recommendation from your regular OB or check Yelp for rec's or ask a friend - but even though I was super nervous to go, it ended up being a wonderful thing for us.
