@uselesskitty - yes, I noticed many boyish names in the girls top 1,000 too.
Madison, Avery, Addison and Aubrey - all in the top 15 (of course, all sorts of spellings are further down the list)

Looking at my favorites:
Eliza - ranked #225 (up 30 places). I think with Elizabeth still proving so popular, this is also going to become more popular, as parents who want to avoid Elizabeth may plump for this.
Jean - not been in Top 1000 since 1994. Ranking for 2012 was #2931.
Josephine - ranked #160 (up 22 places). No surprises here.
Pearl - ranked #756 (up 50 places). This surprises me somewhat, as I thought it was going to implode, as some celebs used it. I was wrong.
Rose - ranked #261 (up 30 places). No surprises here either.
Sarah - ranked #43 (down 4 places). Sarah seems to be dropping out the Top 50 gradually, which when you consider some of the names above it (Nevaeh, Brooklyn and Addison), is somewhat disappointing.
Alfred - ranked #949 (down 34 places). I'm not surprised, in fact the only think I am surprised about, is it's still in the Top 1000!
Gabriel - ranked #24 (non mover). A few years ago, I expect this to launch into the Top 20, but it seems to have steadied in the 20s instead.
John - ranked #28 (down 1 place). Mary continues to fall but John has remained steady in the mid-late 20s in the last four years. I wonder why one former stalwart has fallen out of favor but the other hasn't?
Reuben - ranked #973 (down 45 places). Reuben's failure to "catch on" puzzles me, as it shares something with many other male names that U.S. parents use in their droves, in that it's a strong Biblical name. A Jewish friend said it's because it's still seen as being "very Jewish", but surely that applied to Noah and Isaac (among others) at one point too?!
Samuel - ranked #25 (up 1 place). The comments I made with Gabriel apply here, thought it would break Top 20 a few years back, but seems to have steadied in the 20s instead.
Timothy - ranked #120 (up 3 places). I know this dropped out the Top 100 a few years back, so not surprised to find it lingering outside the Top 100.
Will study the lists at more depth at some point, once my AP exams are over!♥ Margaret Mary ♥
