    I don't like Elsie as a stand-alone name. I recently met a little baby Elsie and had to stop myself from asking her parents what her name was short for. I think you should always have a formal name on a birth certificate, even if you call her Elsie in everyday life. Options for first names...

    I like Elsie as a stand alone name but I do think it's much cutter (and better) as a nickname.
