Barbara isn't that bad. I would use it in the middle spot.

    What about her maiden name?

    ♀ | Helen ◊ Cora ◊ Anne ◊ Jane ◊ Edith ◊ Georgia ◊ Gwen ◊ Catherine ◊ Lydia ◊ Phoebe

Use a Bar- name or a Ba- name. I have a bunch of Mar- named people I wanted to honor but don't like any Mar- names so I picked a Ma- name I love.

I'm also honoring my MIL by using her initials, and my mom by using her favorite color/gem and birthstone as a middle.

If you can't find another way to honor Barbara, the following are nice:

    Bobbie
    Bara
    Basia/Basha
    Bailey
    Bay
    Baya/Baia
    Basilia
    Bardo
    Babette
    Mrs. H.

If it's a girl: Clementine Marvel

Barbara is dated, but I agree it's a very nice name (if we weren't all sick of it, and thus treat it as frumpy). If you want to honor someone, use it as a middle name. Otherwise, besides Babette, I don't think there are variations that would do the trick.

What kinds of names do you like, that might work in the first spot with Barbara as mn?

I'd just use the -ara part. Arabelle would be my choice.

I would use Barbara or Basia. I've always loved Basia, but I started seeing Barbara as "ancient warrior" instead of "old lady." I like the nickname Bunny for Barbara.
