I prefer it either as a nn for Catherine or in the middle spot to give a more spunky vibe to a vintage name (eg. Cecily Kate, Georgia Kate). I don't find it boring or common.
    All the best,

I prefer the spelling Cate/Cait, and I also prefer it ad a middle name. But I like it because its cute, simple and classic.

As a first name, I do think Kate is too plain. As a middle I love it.

I love Katherine, but wouldn't use it except as a middle name because it's become a bit common. I'm not as crazy about Kate, but it's the same thing, middle name only. I have several Katherine variants in my family and among my friends so I'd never use either as a first.

It's one of my best friend's names! I've got it as a middle for Nora Kate.
