Well, this thread has certainly gone off the rails. Sheesh.

American English spellings never cease to amaze me! Only the other day I learnt that they spell chilli 'chili'
I'm American and I've seen it spelled 'archeology' and 'archaeology' equally by other Americans. Also, it really weirds me out to see 'foetus' but I'm inexplicably fine with 'encyclopaedia.' I'd pronounce Maery exactly the same as Mary.

You guys spell it 'chilli?' Weird. I never knew that.

Yeah, that's annoying. I took German for a year year, and Latin for a year, and Spanish for a year (...), and I HATE THIS SO MUCH. If I'm gonna use an umlaut I'm gonna use it RIGHT.

Besides, in English especially, there are almost ALWAYS ways to just spell the name with YOUR pronunciation. No need to get so fancy, unless it's ACTUALLY part of the ACTUAL name.
I'm not feeling incredibly profound at the moment. Check back later.

Nah, it's not weird. It's just different. You guys leave the 'u' out of colour and favourite etc.
