I wrote a story in high school witch a character who went by Essie and her full name was Celeste. I think that's really unexpected and awesome.

I have a friend whose name is Angelina, and people call her Gina. But that's not very unexpected.

My dog's name was Zoe. My mom called her Suzie or Suzie Q. But then again, my mom calls most female dogs Suzie/Suzie Q.

...Speaking of Suzie Q... that'd be a cute nickname for Susan Quinn or something...

Oh, and speaking of Susan, an unexpected nickname could be Sukie?

I am infatuated with the name Marigold, and I would use Maggie as a nickname. I like Coco a a nn for Cordelia and Roscoe (I think it's a unisex short form) and Louie and Nell for Eloise.

Matilda Sailor or Faye Matilda | Sylvie Wren or Simon Adler | Alice Violetta or Atlas Dov | Julian 'Jules' River or Juniper 'Joon' Lovelace | Roscoe Fox or Marlowe Fritz | Jane Lucinda or Lucien Wilde | Louisa Valor or Eloise March | Ivan Elliot or Iris Cordelia | August Jack or Jasper Hale | Dashiell Jude or Judah Reeve | Thea Marina or Marigold 'Maggie' Wynn | Finnegan Wallace or Felix Raphael

I used to know a couple with a little girl called Josephine who everyone called Bijou. I'm not sure how they figured that one, but it is a really cute nickname.
