Jazz is avoidable. I don't know why anyone would automatically shorten Jasper to Jazz...

Once the kid is old enough to decide for himself then you have no control over the nn. Jazz is a very likely diminutive. If you can't stand it then don't use Jasper. If you're just not a fan but can live with it then use it. Maybe he'll prefer Jazz or maybe he won't. You'll have to wait and see.

I usually see girls who go by Jazz or Jas. Never seen that on a boy before.

I know a Jasper who never goes by a nickname, and a Jasper who is called Jazz half the time. It is definitely avoidable, but if Jazz ends up suiting him and he likes it there is nothing you can do about it.

I think he will def. be called that occasionally, but I wouldnt think of it as "Jazz". I would think of as Jas or Jaz, like Lis or Liz for Elisabeth/Elizabeth, except less of an official nickname like Liz, but more like Em for Emily.
