Thread: names from TV/film: yay or nay?
April 19th, 2013 06:22 AM #21
Personally I like a lot of ASOIAF names (book, I know, but to be fair it has been made a television show, so I'm gonna mention it anyway), but I wouldn't name my son Viserys because Viserys Targaryen was a prick, and I wouldn't want my son to be associated with him (even though Viserys is a gorgeous name). Same goes for Joffrey.
Names of super annoying characters aside - unless you name your kid Regina Phalange, Princess Consuela Banana Hammock or something really ridiculous that easily can be traced to the tv show/film, I don't see the problem.Zelia/Elja • Nineteen • Name and history nerd from an early age • I have a blog.

It really depends on the name, the popularity of the show and the namesake.
One of my favorite names is Ziva. I first heard it on NCIS, and fell in love with it. I'm still hesitant about using it, though, because although I love the character, it's so tied to the show. But in ten years, if I actually decide to use it, then most likely only people from my generation and older will get the reference.
Azula is one of my GP names. I could never use it, because I all think of is a psychopathic princess who is crazed with the desire for power. And just about everyone my age will see the same thing.~lucy reine~~ celestine eira ~ mary simona ~ elizabeth echo "ellie" ~ eleanor heaven "lena" ~ vivienne ailsa ~~ jasper red ~ evander lachlan 'evan'~ kai sacha ~ ezra link ~ satoshi rowan ~
