Okay, I actually like Rachel, but playing Devil's Advocate, it's like a mash-up of Ray and Mitchell -- both undisputed boys' names. It's also falling in the rankings for girls. If any name has crossover potential, it's Rachel!

As a counter-example, I actually do have a wonderful nephew who goes by Ivy. His name on his birth certificate is Firstname Middlename Lastname IV, so it is a nickname, but absolutely everyone calls him Ivy, no one calls him by his legal first name. He is now fourteen and is reasonably popular. Going by what most would consider a girls name does not seem to have caused him any problems.
That's so intriguing, the Ivy thing.

And I pray that the above don't move to girls.

I'd have to point out one factor that wouldn't cut it for me: Rachel means "female sheep".

    I'm sorry, I had to!
