I wouldn't worry about the spelling of Briar, plus I think that is the way most people would spell it anyway. Trust me, it is not so bad at all. My name is Alicia (Alysha, Alecia, Aleighsha, Alycia, ETC) and although it is mildly annoying that people either spell it wrong or say it wrong (Ah-lee-sha, Ah-lish-ah, Ah-lee-see-ah) one quick correction solves the problem.
I LOVE the name Briar. Too bad where I am from there is a popular curling tournament called the Brier (hahah, oh Canada)

Tried to comb through the repeats. I LOVE nature names as well! Hubby and I considered Briar/Brier for a middle name, it's a great first name too!
Anise - possible nn Annie
Apple - if Gwyneth can do it, why not someone else?
Berry - a sweet name, too Nameberry?
Beryl - mineral gemstone
Bryony -close to Briar in sound, but the spelling problem is still potentially there
Clary - sage anyone?
Clove -if Clover is too cutesy and too much Shamrock, why not just Clove?
Delphine - the flower Delphinium, as well as the Dolphin, both nature references
Elowen - Cornish for elm tree, spelling problems?
Eponine - from Les Mis, form of the Roman Goddess Epona: protector of horses
Hop - floral plant used in the brewing of beer
Jovial - nn Jovie is adorble
Julep - too alcoholic? I always thought it was a sweet sounding name though.
Katniss - too Hunger Games? At least people could spell it
May - the month as well as the name of the Hawthorn tree
Moselle - French name of the Mosel River that goes through France, Lux., and Germany
Piaf - French word meaning sparrow
Pine - an evergreen and an emotional expression
Saison - French word for season
Spring - lively season name that gets left out (and easy to spell!)
Teal - a bird and a color, lovely and simple

I'm glad you like Caraway! It's been one of my favorites forever! It's easy to spell and pronounce, and it's kinda familiar but completely unexpected as a first name. Plus most importantly for me, it has a gorgeous sound to it!Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns. ~George Eliot
