As you can see from my signature, Louis pronounced Louie is one of my favorite names. I think it could work on it's own, not just as a nn.
Madison, 14-year-old name nerd! My style is all over the place, my favorites change all the time.

Oh please use Rufus! Matilda & Rufus would be so adorable! I think Caspian would be sweet as well, very British children book inspired!

My favorite from your list is the beautiful, tender, substantial yet jazzy Louis, nn Louie. Oh it's good.

    Louis Lachlan
    Louis Beresford

Rufus Beresford could be really cute, kinda dog and bear rolly-poley.

Zephyr Odysseus or Xavier Odysseus have nice flow if you want to go for something wild. I love your idea of using Odysseus to honor an Odessa. Oddly, I find Louis/Louie more refreshing.

Odin and Caspian are also lovely, but I think they're positioned to become popular, and I don't think they work with any of your possible middle names.

Also, you mentioned looking for a full name for Van (which I love!). I am lately loving Giovanni, with nickname Van. There is also Donovan.
