    I'm with most of the others. Grover would always make me think of the (adorable) blue muppet and expose the poor child to teasing. I like some of the names already suggested:

    I think Grover is usable! I also love the suggestion of Graham. My other idea would be Gideon... so strong and handsome.

    I think Grover is really cute and it was my first thought when reading your post.
    I also thought of Grayer which is similar to Grover while being a bit softer, some might consider it sarcastic but my friend used as a MN for her son Jasper and I think it sounds really cute.
    Grier might also work as a name.
    Grayson might be a full name for Gray.

    What do you think of Garvey? It has the same G, V, and R that Grover has, but without the Sesame Street association. Garvey sounds athletic to me.
