@butterflykisses - Good luck! I've got my fingers crossed for you!

I'm currently in my fertile window, but I'm sick! I think it's tonsilitis flaring up again. I have a doctor's appointment later today. We're still trying this month, but I'm not sure of our chances with me being unwell. This month I bought some Robitussin for the purposes of thinning my cervical mucus; ironically, I've ended up using it for its intended purpose as a decongestant lol.

@alzora - Forgot to ask, why no testosterone shots? Do you have a plan of attack atm or are you going to wait until September? As far as amounts of sex go, for your husband I think every second day would be better so his sperm can build up more

Thank you, @Whitegold! Eleanor and Milo...such classy, vintage little names! I guess you weren't on the thread when I explained my reasons for wanting to use Narnia. It has meaning for me that goes back to my accident and weeks in the ICU...and it has sentimental value because I walked down the aisle to a score from one of the films...and the books revolutionized my faith...but the main thing is that I just adore the sound of it. Narnia is the Latin name of an ancient city in Italy.

@Sarah, what a disappointment to be sick at ovulation time! I'm holding out hope for you anyway. I wish I understood more about the effects of minor illness on conception. As for the testosterone shots, I just have a really bad feeling about them. My husband was already afraid to take them because of the side effects--his doctor said it would be like going through puberty again. But I read too much online about them, and everything I'm seeing--I mean EVERYTHING--says that those shots will cause his body to stop the production of sperm. I understand that the doctor has studied medicine and I have not, but if these shots really aided fertility in men with low testosterone, I would expect to see at least ONE positive comment about it SOMEWHERE on the worldwide web. But all I see are horror stories about men who took the shots and ended up infertile. A mistake like that takes months and months to reverse. No thank you.

Also, my husband got his blood drawn late in the day, after a long day of work, and I read that testosterone levels should be tested in the morning because that's when they're at their highest, and they fall throughout the day. So my husband's testosterone level, which was found to be "low average" from that late-afternoon blood test, may not be low at all anyway, and we have no idea what effect, if any, it is having on his sperm. I don't want him to take testosterone shots until we know for sure that his level really is low and that it really is affecting his sperm.

My plan of attack is this. We keep trying until September with no help. That is our one-year mark, so doctors will take us more seriously, AND I'll be on my husband's insurance and will have access to tests myself at that point. If we don't conceive by September, I want to start off first and foremost with a semen analysis for him, followed by (hopefully) an HSG for me. But I'm hoping we conceive by September and can skip all this stuff.

Do any of you pet-lovers worry about what effect a baby will have on your pet? My dog Bing is only two and is used to having my undivided attention. I get sad for him when I think about the change a baby will make. I guess that sounds crazy, but those of you with pets might understand.

@alzora, no definitely no Target. There are no American shops in Male' - no fast food, no Starbucks either. I have to say I find the non-pervasiveness of those brands here quite refreshing. On the other hand shopping is incredibly specialised here which can be a pain. For example you won't get a shop that sells bathroom stuff but you will get one tiny shop selling only plugs, another only taps, yet another only sinks... and so on! Add on to that everything shutting down 5x per day for prayers (the Maldives is an Islamic country) and I end up doing most of my shopping online.
We probably won't still be here when Mila is five - our next move is most likely to China where she will probably go to an international school. If we were still here though then yes I would homeschool her.
I have heard about nausea with prenatals, I can't remember it from last time but I have heard that whole food prenatals generally involve less nausea as they have less dyes etc in them. They're not as cheap, though.
Re: your ttc journey, if you want the tests done can you not just tell your dr you've already been trying for a year? I guess that is maybe my impatient side coming out - I am not very good at waiting, lol.

@Cambria812 thanks for the tip, just checked and the multivitamins have 1mg of folic acid in them. Hey, has anyone else read about folate vs folic acid? I have read several times that folate is preferable to folic acid but need to look into it a little more.

Re: names, are your partners on the same page? We had another name discussion yesterday and my husband decided he doesn't like Delphine after all, gutted as if we have a girl that's my favourite name! I feel like I might have a boy next time, though. No idea why. There are 3 grandbabies in my family so far and all are girls!
