My mom got a Christmas card from a friend whose daughter recently had a baby. The card mentions the baby's name: Ashtian Mykel. Mykel is just a weird variant spelling of Michael, but Ashtian is a name I had never heard before.

Someone I know just had a baby girl named Addi.sten. Thought it was a typo at first but she posted it multiple times so it's not. Maybe a combo of Addison and Aniston? I also know of a little girl named Ell.cy. Took me forever to figure out that it might be a new spelling of Elsie.

(Periods put in for Google-proofing, not part of the names, in case anyone hasn't seen that before)

Some I've heard in the past little while:

Abilene (g) - name of a TX city
Alafair (g) - actually quietly used in the deep south, especially Louisiana, for a long time
Atrella (g) - acquaintance of mine named her daughter this after her grandmother. never heard it before, think it's so pretty
Avielle (g) - this was the name of a poor little girl killed in CT, may she rest in peace
    Bowie (g) - rock on!
Harvest (b/g) - very paganish but cool
Hollin (b/g) - it's a place name from Lord of the Rings
Kelso (b) - kinda cool altho I think of That 70s Show
Loewy (g) - the name of John Malkovich's daughter
    Poema (g) - (po-EMM-a) Italian for poem, I think it's pretty
Sabbath (b/g) - I actually kinda like this for a girl. Wouldn't use it but it's a pretty word name.
