    WDYT of Jem?

I have a crush on it right now. Your thoughts?

    Thanks,

I love love love Jem, as a nn for James. Not so much on its own.

Love love love. I love the literary connection to Scout's older brother from TKAM, even if he is sort of a flat character. I also like the sound. Jem Finch's nn is short for Jeremy, so it could work for James, Jeremy, or Jeremiah. It does sound a bit like "gem" and therefore a little feminine, but it has history and it feels boyish to me.

I'm not such a fan. I don't know if your planning on using it for a boy or a girl, but for a girl it seems just like a shortened version of Gemma (which I don't like), and for a boy it still feels feminine.

I adore Jem for a boy. This has been one of my favourites for about 10 years. I get shot down if I ever mention it, so there's that, but still - LOVE!
