I think when author Maeve Binchy died it reminded many people of the name, speaking for myself I remembered seeing the name on my mom's books growing up. I know one couple who named their born-in-2010 girl Maeve. If you are firmly in the "classic, NOT trendy" camp, it is a way of naming your child a classic name without being the 14th Charlotte you know. If you have Gaelic roots, the sounds and look of the name are familiar.

Having said that, I think it's "tied for first" for many people, and a guilty pleasure name for many people, and a "my husband said forget it" name for more than a few people I know.
