I like the theme ideas, they are age appropriate and cute. You can find tons of inspiration on Pinterest for both those themes:

Tons of ideas there and they all look pretty easy
That should be lots of inspiration for you :-) I also like http://www.birthdayparty4u.co.uk/ for finding cheap decorations etc

When my boys turned 1 we based the theme off of one of their favorite books at the time, Lots of Dots by Craig Frazier. We decorated the hallway with circles cut out of colorful paper. In each one was one of my favorite pictures of them from the first year. We had probably 30 pictures or so. All the food was dot shaped too- round appetizers for adults, cheerios for babies, round fruits etc... and of course round cakes with blueberry dots on them. My favorite part of the decorations were the recreations of scenes from the book on the walls in cloth. We have done this before for decorations in the boys' bedroom, but we decorated the living room with huge scenes from the book. One of the images was a man holding a bunch of balloons. We used this one for a game. In each balloon was a picture of the boys, one from each of the 12 months. We had the guests try to a) list the pictures in chronological order and b) guess which boy was which. We had a dot-themed prize for the winner. As for party favors, since our boys have a summer birthday we found dot covered beach balls for each kid. I'll see if I can figure out how to attach a few pictures.
I think a very hungry caterpillar theme could be really cute! But it might be hard to find caterpillar things. What I loved about our theme was that it was very simple and we could find a lot of things that worked in easily. Good luck!Mama to my boys, the 'twinadoes', and a little Tingeling.

Nora has hung out with us before to do studies of how we act together and such. She does not live with us yet, but we've spent several days bonding with her. They can't just send her off to our house without her even meeting us first...
She was on a soccer team before we even knew about her and she used to sail with her father when he was alive. When she came over to our house, Andrew played with her outside and she went longboarding and penny boarding with him and loved it. Yeah, maybe she won't keep it as a hobby, but she did really like it and I'm sure Andrew will do it with her in the future.
Please don't judge when you don't know what you're talking about.
And yeah, I think seperate parties for twins is bizarre as well. My sister, Mariah, is a little odd in that way. She wanted them both to feel "special" as I said before...

I feel kind of guilty reading this thread, I guess we don't put a lot of effort into parties here.
On the day of her actual birthday, we have a family day. My Dh, daughter and go on a family outing. Previous outings have been to the zoo, the aquariam...You get my drift. We then go for a family dinner with both sets of grandparents. After dinner, we go home and watch a movie together as a family. We've done that for the last 4 birthdays.
Then, on the nearest Saturday to her actual birthday, we have the party. Nothing fancy compared to some of the descriptions here. A cake made by me, some food, and candy. Lots of fun music too. We play party games and we make sure there are plenty of things for the kids to do in the garden, such as a sandbox, toys, maybe a paddling pool and water guns. Last year we hired a bouncy house, which was a huge success.
No particular theme here, apart from the cake, which is chosen by birthday girl. This year she wanted a ballet cake. Previous cakes have been Barbie and Peppa Pig.
We only invite family, close friends, and neighbours to the party, though I'm sure as she gets older we'll invite some of her own friends too.
I feel bad reading the effort some people here to go for kids parties but Amelie has enjoyed all of her birthdays (the family outing and the party) so I guess this is just what works for us.
