    Names from the attic...

My mother is obsessed with genealogy, and has done extensive research on the family tree and has successfully traced it back to 950. (some royalty involved but all in the wrong side of the blanket). I finally folded and peeked into it and was intrigued by some of the names. Most of them are of English, French or Germanic history.

    Girls:
    Adella
    Agnes
    Alice
    Anabel
    Annah
    Beatrice
    Breatrix

Shy - This name shows up 3 times. I think it might be related to the Grace, Faith, Charity craze)
    Sukey

    Wilhelminia

    Boys:
    Alexandr
    Alloysius
    Anselm

    Richard
    Theodore
    Theoford
    Thierry
    Ulric
    Wardric
    William
    Willem
    Willet

Most of these names show up at least twice. Some of them seem like spelling errors but when they show up in the next generation spelled the same you have to wonder if they aren't just geographical spellings of certain names. I noticed that fathers would name their children names like theirs with variations. (ie Edmund-Edwine-Edward-Wardric)
What does your family attic of names look like? Would you use any of these or any of yours?

I recently found out my great grandmother's name was Nonie. I've never been close to either side of my family, so I don't know many family names.

Nonie looks like it could be short for Eleanor instead of Nora.

    Helen
    Daniel
    Donahue
    Madison (male)
    Kelly (male)
    Pearl
    Cora
    Exa
    Orpha
Benjamin Franklin (my 2x, 3x, & 4x great-grandfathers were all Benjamin Franklin *our last name*)
    Hamish
    Humphrey
    James
    Ray
    Harry
    Virgil
    Mary
    Clyde
    Carey (male)

    Whitney (male)

That's all I've got right now. What I'd really like to do is dig into the names of my great-grandparents' siblings. My great-grandmother came from a family of 11 and my great-grandfather from a family of 14. That's a lot of names! :D
