Opinions on Ruby ____?
Hi Berries!
I am very newly pregnant, and way ahead of the game here, but I want to know what sounds best with Ruby! My DH and I have had Ruby chosen for at least 6 months, and when I have suggested middle names, he normally shoots them down. I am drawn to 3+ syllable names (last name is 1 syllable). I kept coming up with names starting with 'E' and having the emphasis on the middle syllable:
Elena
Eliza
Elizabeth
He doesn't like any of those. Do you have any other suggestions that would be along the same feel and flow as those?
Recently I suggested Violet or Juliet. He thinks these are much better. What do you think?
Ruby Juliet
Ruby Violet
Or should I bring these up again?
Ruby Elena
Ruby Elizabeth
Thanks!

Ruby is a lovely name, and I agree that a 3+ syllable middle name will work nicely with it. I'm not so sure that an "E" name is the way to go, though. I know her full name will not be said together all that often, and that it is most important to pick a name that you like, but the ending "ee" sound in Ruby doesn't pair well with a beginning "e" sound.
I'm not really a fan of the Ruby Juliet or Ruby Violet combinations, either. The "u" sound is repeated in Ruby Juliet, and Ruby Violet is an awful lot of color name.
In the end, it's whatever you like. I think the individual names are all very lovely.
Here of some suggestions that might work/sound better:
Ruby Adelaide/Adeline
Ruby Amelia
Ruby Camilla
Ruby Cecilia/Cecelia
Ruby Fiona
Ruby Georgina/Georgiana
Ruby Louisa
Ruby MatildaTobias David, Roland Eldridge, Oskar Ezra, Edgar Milo, William Nathaniel
Ruby Clementine, Beatrice Greta, Matilda Mae, Olive Helena, Eliza Hazel

Those are perfectly lovely combos! Too bad hubs isn't on board.
I'm okay with the other two choices, but they aren't ideal to me. Ruby Juliet shares very similar sounds (think Ruby and Julie and how they rhyme) which turns me off. Ruby and Violet are both colors (well, obviously ruby is a gem, but it can also describe a color), so I'm not real crazy about that either.
Hmm... just off the top of my head:
Ruby Amelia
Ruby Johanna
Ruby Aurora
Ruby Catherine
Ruby Adelaide
Ruby Miranda
Ruby Margaret
Ruby Josephine
ETA: Jinx on like half your post, @dovah, haha! You also bring up a great point that an "E" middle might not be the best choice because of the "e" sound that Ruby ends with. I hadn't thought of that, but you're right.Last edited by littlemrsb; November 12th, 2012 at 03:43 PM.

Ruby is our #1 name too! I would have had Ruby Evangeline as my middle, but my husband isn't fond of it. I think it sounds beautiful! Good luck!
