i have a 2 year old daughter named evangeline, nn evie. we never ever get comment about christianity. i think it is a beautiful name, regardless of the origin. i have known so many noahs and rachels and other bible names that are not pidgeon holed as christian.

I think it's a very pretty name but to answer the question of the OP, I would be very surprised if a person named Evangeline was not of some Christian faith.

It means "bringer of good news" and it is derived from the Greek.

I don't think Fundamentalist Evangelical Christians use the name that much. They use Hebrew names.

I know it's a little late, but Evangeline literally means "The Good News" of the Lord! It's a synonym for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I think any parent who doesn't understand the child's name is playing ignorant.

I'm not feeling incredibly profound at the moment. Check back later.

No, I would be more likely to assume they were French or Creole.
