Just wondering if Jesse is seen as a babd boy name, not the good way but as in the 'naughty kid in school' type way...
I have read multiple posts (here and other forums) where Jesse is discourage because people have know a Jesse who was naughty and horrible... Anyone agree?disagree?

This makes me laugh because my nephew's name is Jesse. He just graduated High School and was the poster child for honesty, intelligence, integrity, and friendship (literally). He was a high honor student, captain of the football and baseball teams, full college scholarship award winner (academic and athletic), community award for helping people, and voted most likely to succeed. In our community, the name Jesse has the utmost respect. I am so proud to be related to Jesse!

I don't get a "bad boy" impression from Jesse in the least. I actually really like the name. There is a Jesse in my husband's family and they will occasionally call him "messy" because he is just... a mess sometimes. Kind of whiney and a mama's boy. So I guess if anything, I get the opposite of a bad boy connotation from Jesse.

The only Jesse I know is 50/50 bad boy, mama's boy. Half the time he's terrible, the other half he's whiny and really babyish...but he's very smart for his age and can be really helpful when he wants to be.

That being said, of course not all Jesse's are bad. A name doesn't make you a bad person. While the type of name you have might influence your personality slightly, it's not going to make you an all around bad boy. I think Jesse is a perfectly fine name and I see it as working on a sporty kid (the Jesse I know plays flag football :P )

It comes from Jesse James, I think. I have an image of Jesse as robbing stagecoaches, not pulling the school fire alarm.

The biblical Jesse was a gentle shepherd, if that makes you feel better. And dantea's point is most important: a name does not make you who you are, but it does subtly shape people's expectations of you.

I'll admit: when I picture someone named Jesse, I envision a leather jacket and motorcycle In spite of this, however, I think it's a nice name, and you shouldn't feel discouraged to use it just because various characters and celebrities named Jesse have been "bad". If you raise your son to be polite and honest and caring, he will become as such. Remember, his name doesn't define his character!

Impressions of names are based on personal experiences with the name. If you name your son Jesse, you and the people you know will make your own impressions of the name based on your child's character. The name does not give him character, his experiences do.

With that said, three things come to mind when I think of Jesse: Jesse James, Uncle Jesse from the tv show Full House, and Jesse Pinkman from Breaking Bad. All either have a "bad boy" image or are legitimate bad boys.

All I can think of is Uncle Jesse of Full House. That being said, the character was a bad boy turned stay at home dad
