Yes, sorry, Ryerson is too much. It's got a lot of sounds that clash a bit, and I don't think it's a genuine surname.

If you like the nickname Rye, there are definitely easy ways to get there:

    Riley
    Ryan
    Ryland
    Ryne
    Bryant
    Bryson
    Daughtry
    Destry
    Pryce
    Zachary
    Azariah
Raijin (the Japanese god of thunder )
    Zechariah
    Ryder
    Blade, MD

FYI: Ryerson is my mother's maiden name. It is not in Nameberry's database, but it is a name with a lot of history dating all the way back to the 1300s.

The Ryerson genealogy and history dates back to the Knickerbocker families of Ryerson, Ryerse, Ryerss; also the Adriance and Martense families, all descendants of Martin and Adriaen Reyersz (Reyerszen), of Amsterdam, Holland (see full history at http://archive.org/stream/ryersongen...0ryer_djvu.txt).
