My first instinct is like the mermaid, but if someone told me R E L I would understand and get it right after that.

I usually pronounce Arielle as -R E L, and Ariel as -air ree ul like in The Little Mermaid. Even though it's the same name just spelled differently.

I personally prefer Arielle or Ariella "R E ella" but I think Ariel is really pretty too.

My sister's name is Arielle(pronounced REL) but she gets the little mermaid air-ee-ell pronunciation a lot from strangers who just look at the name, doctor, interviews, etc... And then the people who know its pronounced REL but still always say it like little mermaid. She often gets compliments on the correct pronunciation though. We call her Arie for short.

Exactly. Ar-ee-ELL for Arielle, and AIR-ee-uhl for Ariel.

is Arielle (ar-ee-ELL NOT AIR-ee-uhl) too related to be sister to Aurora? Rory and Aria? does it matter that they are both disney princesses, even though it is said differently?
