Perhaps this is a silly question, but what is the military connection? Thanks!

Formation marching. We called it calling cadence? one-two-two-two-three-four-threeeeee-fouuuur

Reminiscent of unpleasant Basic Training manuvers. And accusations of "eyeballing."

We also called all the various marching jingles "Cadences" because I guess that sounds manlier/more official than "songs." The ones that are call-and-return sort of marching things.

Cadence in the dictionary is defined as "rhythmic flow of a sequence of words or sounds." Is there anything about that definition that indicates Cadence can only be used for girls? Nope. Honestly, Cade and Caden are so popular for boys that I don't see why Cadence would be an issue. It's one part Cade and one part Clarence. If Cadence ends up hating his name, he can easily shorten it to Cade.
This. There was a thread about Emerence the other day where posters were also pulling the "it's a girls' name so you can't use it for a boy!" card. Who decided that? I've known male Ashleys, Kaleys, and Aubreys and they were all perfectly fine, well-adjusted young men. Cade is a cool nickname that I actually prefer to Cadence, but I say there's no reason Cadence couldn't be a boys' name.

I don't hate it on a boy. I like Cadence more than with a 'K.' Cade is a nice nn. I like Cadence more on a boy than Emery or Avery! .

Cadence as a girls' name doesn't really do anything for me, but I like it a lot better on a boy! I'm almost embarrassed that I know this, but Bentley from Teen Mom's middle name is Cadence. I remember that because I thought it was a bit unusual to see it used on a boy, but there's at least some precedent for it out there! I would say go for it. I think it goes well with brother Bailey as well.

I don't hate the idea of Cadence on a boy (and I like to see people willing to use 'girls' names on boys), but I much prefer Cade.

You HAVE to think about the child in this case. I know several little girls named Cadence. Cade is fabulous on a boy, but Cadence is kind of like naming him Emma or Sophie. Do you really want your little boy going around with little girls having his name?

I don't really see how naming a so Cadence is the same as Emma and Sophie, which have and always will be girls names. As others have said Cadence is a word name and therefore doesn't belong to either gender. It isn't that popular on girl's so how it can be similar to Emma and Sophie I don't know. Also, somebody made a good point in saying that names can be well within the top 100 but you might never actually meet a child with that name, and there's a good chance the poster and her son will never come across a Cadence being that it is only the #279th most popular girl's name.

I don't like the nae Cadence ona boy or girl, but I adore the nickname Cade. Caedmon is a name I did consider for a while just for the nickname Cade. I think Cadence would get on fine, he'd have the masculine nickname of Cade and as he gets older if he really doesn't like it then he can by Cade or Caden.

I also thought of Teen Mom because of the little boy Bentley Cadence.

I think it's a really bad idea, but I have no tolerance for unisex names.

Cade, on the other hand, I quite like for a boy.
