    Only 3 weeks to go...help!

So the first two kids were named shortly after determining sex...this time seems much harder. We have already went through one long and short list and have started over since nothing seemed to stick. I am so ready to stop obsessing and just get ready for the baby to arrive. Please help.

Last name one syllable starts with D ends with hard consonant. Sibs names Uli (pronounced like Julie without J) Miles and Wren Lyra.

To keep some consistency, prerequisites are that it is not common (like not in top 1000), how it sounds, and what it means. I won't go on and on with the long lists, but here are some of the final contenders from both lists...even though the finalists seem to change daily, ugh.

    List 1:
    Laszlo
    Cosmo, Cosimo, Cosmos
Iden (this is out of contention I think--everyone likes it but too sim to over-popular Aidens)
    Argus
Otto (this is our fave, but fear it is headed towards a rise in popularity--just look at all the places it is mentioned on nb --wanted to name first Jasper in 2010 when in 900's but did not for same reason, now it's in the 200's I think)

    List 2:
Isadore (too fem? can't help but think Isadore Spartacus from The Birdcage)
Hawthorne (neither of our kids have nn but this might need one, but what? also is it too long compared to sibs?)
    Yarrow
    Atlas
    Echo
    Zeph

As an aside, middle name of other kids have a coincidentally musical connotation...not at all necessary but wanted to put it out there.

Any suggestions or input happily accepted. This little boy needs a name so I can get some sleep!

I love Otto! It might be gaining popularity, but he probably will still be the only one in his classes (although I can relate: I don't think I can use my beloved Charlotte for the same reason). Argus and Atlas are both great too.

I don't think Isidore is too feminine, but I prefer it in the middle spot, for some reason.

From your list Argus and I think that Argus Theodore would be a good fit.

Zeph is my pick, but it should be short for Zephyr. Or if you prefer something short and strong: Zev.
Yarrow and Echo are too feminine. Isadore isn't feminine, but it is exactly masculine either.

Niteowl13, I prefer Zephyr to Zeph too but dh liked Zeph. I didn't like what I found for Zeph in the urban dictionary, not sure how credible but this one may be off the list just in case. Thanks for the input on Yarrow and Echo...I kind of wondered myself. Probably will keep Echo in the running for middle since it does have the vaguely musical connotation that sibs middles do.

Katiedawn121, hmm, Bo you say? Gonzo is my wish I could but no one will let me name

Rollo, Argus was actually our #1 from list one. My only problem with it is the Harry Potter link. That and Gus is becoming more popular.

Allisonleigh, yeah I really like Otto too. I keep wondering if I haven't firmly settled on anything hoping that we'll end up nameless at the hospital and be able to say, "Well we both like Otto and we've run out of time..." I like Atlas as well, particularly the image of holding the weight of the world.

Please keep the input and suggestions coming...I can't stop searching. Don't tell dh but I have a new one.

    How about Xylo Cline?

country mouse I know nothing about Harry Potter except to say that I love the name Harry and I think that and correct me if I am wrong that Argus was a minor character and therefore won't be inevitably noteable to others as a Potter name.

And no I think Xylo Cline sounds like a part for an engine.

Do you like Zebulon or Eben? Or Xenon or Xander?

rollo, you are correct Argus Filch was a minor character (although in all stories). He was the night-watchman character. I like Argus for its meaning of guardian OR bright. I also love that here on nb they say it would be better suited as a name for a camera (it is the name of a camera company) deterring many from keeping it on the list. Also I am open to alternate spelling of Argos.

Thoughts on Argus vs Argos anyone?

New idea: Otso (as an alt to Otto which I really think is going up in the lists too fast for my taste)

So seriously, I am very close to putting pen to paper and giving DH my short short list. Just need to wrap up a few loose ends and put together a group of first and middles. I say that like it will be final but we'll see

Can I even consider Busby? First or middle. Love Buzz actually but don't know if I can convince the rest of the family (well my 4yo would probably be easy to convince

Once I get some combos nailed down I will put up a poll I think. Sorry I'm all over the place. Need to get this over with so I can plan one son's "birthday" and the others "birth day".

    Thanks to all.

I was looking over your list and maybe Hawthorne nn Hawk?

Or what about Oslo instead of Otto or Otso (that one looks made up to me)?
