Help me narrow it down!
I'm ready for my short list. Ideally I would have a boy name and a girl name picked out already, but I haven't even started putting first and middles together yet, so let's work on that.
I have gathered a list of our favorite names. What I'm looking for is feed back based on personal experience and (to an extent) personal preference. I also want to know what names sound good together, and which names sound best with my last name (one syllable, starts with B).
I'm just going to let everyone know right now: A lot of my names (particularly the girl ones) are a little less traditional. If you think any kid with that name will be made fun of, or know of a specific incident where a kid with that name was bullied, I would appreciate the input. Also, I'm not up to date on celeb naming trends, so if any celebrities or pseudo-celebs have recently named their kids these names, I want to know.
Boy Names (first or middle/mix and match):
Thatcher
Charles
Bennett
Fletcher
Banner
Calvin
Elias
Ezra (family name)
Jack (family name)
Henry
Boy Names (middle only):
Finch
Noah (family name)
Lysander
Wallace
Reid (family name)
Ian
Malcolm
Linus
York (family name)
Girl Names (first or middle/mix and match):
Percy
Aloisa
Evelyn
Beatrix
Adelaide
Margot
Emmeline
Temperance
Girl Names (middle only):
Isolde
Story
Emerson
Alice
Archer
Lynn (family name)
York (family name)
Rosevelt (family name)
Winter
Thisbe
Gatsby
Valor
I'm also considering Mary Alice (going by both as a first name with no middle name)
Please be nice. I would appreciate it if I don't have to read about how I'm terrible at picking out names and I shouldn't even be allowed to have kids.
Feel free to suggest your own first or middle names if you do not think any of mine go well together or with my last name. Thanks so much for any input! I really need it.Last edited by dovah; November 13th, 2012 at 06:50 PM.

Haha, quite the contrary! I think you have a great list.

Boy Names (first or middle/mix and match):
Thatcher -- This is a cool name! Reminds me of Margaret Thatcher.
Charles -- I don't hear this much anymore. It's very classic and handsome.
Bennett -- This is a wonderful name! I also like that it has the familiar nn option of Ben.
Fletcher -- I don't like this one as much as Thatcher. Sounds a little like "fetch her"
Banner -- I don't know if I'd be brave enough to use this myself, but I think it is a really neat name idea!
Calvin -- Nms. Strong association with Calvin and Hobbes for me.
Elias -- I like this name. Its masculine, but soft.
Ezra (family name) -- I like this one too! It sounds very wise to me.
Jack (family name) -- This is a nice name. Might be a tad popular compared to the rest of your names.
Henry -- This is a great name!
Boy Names (middle only):
Finch -- I like this! Reminds me of Atticus Finch.
Noah (family name) -- This is a great name! Nice sound and history.
Lysander -- Nms. I can see this making a really great middle though
Wallace -- See above
Reid (family name) -- Love it!
Ian -- nms
Malcolm -- I prefer Colm on its own
Linus -- The Peanuts association is too strong for me
York (family name) -- This one is neat!
Some combo ideas:
Thatcher Reid
Charles Linus
Charles York
Fletcher Wallace
Bennett Finch
Bennett James
Banner Noah
Banner York
Calvin Finch
Elias Reid
Ezra Finch
Jack Linus
Jack Lysander
Henry Finch
Girl Names (first or middle/mix and match):
Percy -- This is cute! You might also like Perry.
Aloisa -- I'm not quite sure of the pronunciation...Ah-louisa, right? This name is pretty, but not my favorite.
Evelyn -- nms, but pretty.
Beatrix -- nms
Adelaide -- Lovely name! I love the way it flows. It sounds very cheerful.
Margot -- This one is spunky and fun.
Emmeline -- See above
Temperance -- Can't picture it as a first name, but it would make a cool middle.
Girl Names (middle only):
Isolde -- nms, but pretty
Story -- This is a really neat idea for a middle!
Emerson -- Nice
Alice -- nms
Archer -- Sounds too masculine to me
Lynn (family name) -- pretty!
York (family name) -- Too masculine
Rosevelt (family name) -- This is a wonderful idea! I love the sound of this.
Winter -- So pretty!
Thisbe -- nms
Gatsby -- I wouldn't want this in my name. It doesn't sound very feminine and The Great Gatsby is a bit of a depressing story.
Valor -- This is a neat idea! I think I'd like it even better for a boy. (Charles Valor or Henry Valor would be neat!)
Combo ideas:
Percy Lynn
Percy Winter
Percy Margot
Aloisa Valor
Aloisa Winter
Evelyn Rosevelt
Evelyn Song
Beatrix Emerson
Adelaide Winter (This is if you want to add a more crisp image/feel to the warm Adelaide)
Adelaide Pearl (This is if you want to keep the warm feel throughout)
Margot Rosevelt (with this combo I think I like the Margo spelling better)
Margot Alice
Margot Isolde
Margot Temperance
Emmeline Story
Emmeline Percy
Hope this helps!

Thatcher- I really love Thatcher! Its a cool, unique name.
Charles- Not my style, I'd use it as a middle name
Bennett- I like this, its a different way to get the nn Ben.
Fletcher- I also really like this too!
Banner- I don't think i'd use it though. It would be an interesting middle name though!
Calvin- I really like this, although you may want to consider the association with the underwear brand or Calvin and Hobbes
Elias- yes! i love this name, and a nn is Eli
Ezra (family name)- personally, id use this as a mn only
Jack (family name)- Jack sounds incomplete to me, Jackson perhaps? its a bit popular though. Jack as a mn would be nice
Henry- not my style, nice name though
Finch- I like this, interesting middle name for sure!
Noah (family name)- for sure as a middle name
Lysander- good way to lengthen your short last name
Wallace- see above
Reid (family name)- you would have to use a longer first name, (for ex. Jack Reid Bell sounds choppy)
Ian- good mn i think, could work as a first name too
Malcolm- good middle name choice
Linus- i love this for a mn
York (family name)- refer to Reid
Girl Names (first or middle/mix and match):
Percy- sorry, this is all boy to me
Aloisa- not sure how to pronounce this
Evelyn- I like this
Beatrix- not a fan
Adelaide- i like this alot
Margot- nope sorry
Emmeline- i like this, i prefer Emerson/Emmerson
Temperance- i think of temper, as in like misbehaving, i don't like it.
Girl Names (middle only):
Isolde- nms but pretty
Story- interesting, not sure i would use it personally
Emerson- i love this name, why not as a first name?
Alice- similar to Reid, you'd need a longer first name to even it out
Archer- not on a girl, sorry
Lynn (family name)- again long, first name
York (family name)- again, with the long first name, prefer this on a boy
Rosevelt (family name)- id like this, maybe as a mn for a boy, like Roosevelt, as in Teddy
Winter- i like this, as a mn only
Thisbe- not even sure how to pronounce this.
Gatsby- not something I would use
Valor- i really like this, id prefer it on a boyDeclan & Callum & Skyler & Porter & Zander & Keenan & Conrad &
Riley & Calder & Austin & Jordan & Colton & Lincoln & Ryker & Chase
Leila & Maya & Abigail & Payton & Keira & Madeline &
Zoey & Sierra & Ella & Kyla & Dahlia & Aurora & Sydney
