I'm a Margaret who goes by Maggie (or Peggy to my dad).

I have never been known as Margie, anyone who dared to call me that, would get a death glare.

Daisy doesn't come from Margaret per se, the name Daisy originates simply from the flower. However, Daisy is sometimes used as a nn for Margaret, because the French form of Margaret is Marguerite and that also happens to be the French word for 'daisy'. That's how using Daisy as a nn for Margaret came about.

Furthermore, I have heard of a Margaret going by Molly, even though strictly speaking Molly comes from Mary (through an old English nn for Mary, which was Malle/Mally). I can't say I'm keen.

I do like Mamie as well.

Edited to add: Given that Margaret comes from the Greek for 'pearl', I can't see why Pearl couldn't be used as a nn!

Maggie, Meg, Daisy, Maisie are all ones I have heard being used. @Whit32's suggestion of Magpie is adorable! I also onece knew a girl who was named Margeruite (sp?!) and she went by NN Maga which I always thought was cool. This would also work for Margaret.x

Mmmm, I know you say you're not fond of it but if Molly really can be used for Margaret I'm kind of liking that. Molly was another on my list but like Margaret as well, maybe this is a way I can use both. How do people feel about molly as nn for Margaret?

Well like I said, Molly is not a nn I'd use for myself, but then I strongly dislike the name, so it goes without saying.

I guess I'm a traditionalist at heart, I like the "right" nicknames to be used with the "right" names!

One of my best friends is a Margaret Anne who's mom planned on calling her Meggie. It never really caught on, but Meggie and Meg are cute options. I also like Greta and Maggie. Apparently Peg or Peggie work too? Any which way, I'm sure you'll figure something out. (:

I personally like Meg or Mae for nicknames. They are short and sweet and will still nicely suit an adult compared to Daisy or Peggy or Maggie.

I think Molly for Margaret is fine. I think as far as names like Mary, Margaret, Elizabeth, ect go I see a lot of nickname leeway. Like I feel like you don't have to pick the most intuitive ones.

Like a less traditional name like Michelle nn Millie or Minnie feels like a stretch while if you introduced me to Margaret nn Minnie I would not think anything of it.

I know a girl named Margaret but she absolutely refuses to be called Margaret, it's Maggie, apparently. Maggie is nice, but my favorite nn's for Margaret are Mae and Pearl.
