You grow up together, although you never look at each other in a romantic way. Graduation is coming up, and you've both decided to go to Texas Tech university. He wants to major in Agricultar Science and you choose Public relations.

You enjoy freshman year together, going to parties and football games, but also meeting new people and spending some time apart. Then, in sophomore year, he meets Lindsey Grey, and you instantly dislike her. You can't put your finger on it, but you try, in vain, to make him see that she's no good for him. She continues to drive a wedge between you, and by second semester, you're barely talking. Then he calls you frantic one night, early in junior year. Linsey is pregnant! You tell him that he needs to be there for her, knowing that this means you'll likely never see him again, and it breaks your heart. And although you realize it that night on the phone, you don't tell him that you think you've fallen in love with him. He stays with Lindsey and sends you the occasional update on the baby, and invites you to the baby shower.

Two weeks after the baby is born, he calls you and begs you to come over. He sounds really upset, so you rush over there. When you walk in, he's pacing back and forth with the baby, who's screaming his lungs out. He tells you he can't get him to stop crying, so you offer to rock him for a while. He quiets down after a few minutes, and falls asleep in your arms. After you put him down in his crib, you walk back to the kitchen, where Ean is sobbing at the kitchen table. He tells you that Lindsay left in the middle of the night, and left a note, saying she just wasn't cut out to be a mother, and she didn't want to ever hear from either of them again. He's crushed, and as much as you want to say I told you so, you hold back. You tell him that you'll move in for the rest of the semester and help him with the baby.

You decide to stay with Ean in his apartment for both of your senior years as well, since Sawyer has already had plenty of change in his life, and needs as much stability as possible. You both work out your schedules so someone is always with the baby. You drive back home for Thanksgiving together, and both of your families eat at his parents' house. After enjoying a game of touch football in the backyard, you go inside to watch TV. His parents are totally preoccupied with the baby and you both have a couple glasses of wine to relax. And after you put Sawyer down for the night, you finish off the bottle after everyone has gone to bed. Ean starts opening up about how he never could have made it without you, and that he'll never be able to repay you, and he lets slip that he thinks he loves you. And that's all it takes. You confess your long swept under the rug feelings, and you're officially a couple from then on.
