    Some weird finds from 1900

I scrolled down right to the bottom of the complete name list in 1900 (yes, it takes ages, but the list is not as long ones from later years) and, you know what, some people then were as "creative" as now. If anyone could explain where any of these names come from then I would be grateful!

    Boys
    Albino
    Bethel
    Broadus (Broad Us?)
    Bubber
    Catherine
    Curry
    Erskine
    Gifford
    Lugene
    Prentiss
    Purvis
    Stanislaus
    Virgie
    Smiley

    Girls
    Arvella
    Dicey
    Elpha
    Curlie
    Etheline
    Faustina
    Ferrol
Georgeanna (guessing this is a variant of Georgina and Georgiana)
    Ioma
    Lillias
    Luvina
    Oney
    Pairlee
    Pet and Petrina
    Rafaelita
    Pinky
    Texanna
    Soledad

Surprisingly, names that wouldn't be considered unusual today like Sharon, Honor (or Honour) and even Aubrey were only chosen for 5 babies. The same with boys- Nicolas, Monty and Chandler were only chosen for 5 babies.

What do you think of those names?

This is interesting to see, because I am currently trying to compile a complete name list for 1900, but for Sweden.

I wonder if Catherine are girls that were accidentally registered as boys, or actual male Catherines? I would have thought the first, but since I found both a male Iris and a male Alfhild in my Swedish research, I'm not so sure ...

I like Faustina, Lillias, Petrina, and Soledad.

I was suspicious of Soledad (Sole Dad could hold some teasing potentital) but I love the meaning!
