    Starting again?

I have two children who are teen/tweens now. My son is Jacob Edwin and my daughter is Clara Elizabeth. Each have family names being passed down (Edwin for my son and both names for my daughter). I'm in the midst of a divorce and actually have sort of an old/new beau who never had children of his own. He would be interested in having one of our own, if possible. I'm in agreement with it so we started talking about names.

The girl's name is sort of a given since we sort of started our romance 25+ yrs ago when I heard him play "Mandy" on the piano (we dated for about 2-3 yrs in high school). Not to mention my great-grandma's name was Amanda. So, we like Amanda Leigh (Leigh is my middle name). That name also goes style-wise with my other kids. Where we are having a little trouble is with boy names. I like William (nickname Will instead of Bill), Nicholas, and Joshua best. He also likes those names. Both our fathers have Charles in their names. His grandfather was Patrick Clayton (which he isn't really gung-ho on). My grandfather was Fredrick William August (August was his great-grandfather's name, too).

He is mainly of Scottish/Irish descent while I am mainly of German descent. He has a Mc___ last name.

So, I'm thinking maybe one of the following:
    William Patrick
    Nicholas Patrick
    William Nicholas
    Joshua ????
(my daughter would have been Joshua Edwin if she were a boy, but this is the name picked with my soon to be ex)

    Any thoughts or suggestions?

PS I do NOT want to include either Michael or Scott in any names (one is my soon to be ex and the other has really bad memories).

All good choices that I would keep in mind for consideration if and when the time came. I would ditch Joshua now, you considered with your ex, time to move on from that name and it's similar to Jacob so I wouldn't use it anyway. Good luck x

I like William August Mc____ personally.

Also I agree with the above ditch Joshua, plus you have Jacob why use another similar J name? Hope everything works out

What about August Charles? It has meaning to both of you. Or even William August? Nicholas Charles?

William Charles or William August get my votes. Followed by Nicholas Patrick. I also agree that you should ditch Joshua.

I think you all are right about ditching Joshua. He likes it, but it does just sort of remind me of things with my soon to be ex. Even with him, I wasn't too fond of the J name thing, but I was having a difficult time finding names I liked with Edwin as the middle name (it was required). I found J names seemed to work best or names he thought sounded too snooty. I find it interesting that you all think William August would be good. I do like that and the suggestion of Nicholas Charles.

I like Charles August, Charles Patrick, and Nicholas Charles. Since both of your fathers have Charles in their names, I feel like that would be a special one to pass down.
