Strong, timeless boys name.
We are expecting our third child in November, a brother or sister for Abigail Elizabeth and Thomas Lawson.
We are looking for a timeless, masculine sounding boy's name. Nothing trendy and it needs to work well as an adult name. Middle name will again be a familly name - Stephen. At the moment our only choices are:
Charles Stephen
Samuel Stephen
Would love to hear any of your opinions or suggestions.
Thank you!!

Welcome to Nameberry, Lizzy!
My recommendation is ...
ABIGAIL Elizabeth [&] MIRIAM Victoria
[and]
EDWARD Stephen [&] THOMAS Lawson
... a sibset comprised of equivalent "core classic" boys' first names and equivalent Biblical girls' first names, one of which is a classic name [Miriam].

I like Charles Stephen better than Samuel Stephen (too many S sounds for me). Here are some other options:
Richard Stephen
James Stephen
Edmund Stephen
Nathaniel Stephen
Henry Stephen
John Paul Stephen
George Stephen
Victor Stephen
Phillip Stephen
Daniel Stephen
Frederick Stephen
Matthew Stephen
Maxwell Stephen

I really like Samuel Stephen. It's classic sounding and Samuel will be a fantastic match with Abigail and Thomas. I don't know if you call them Abby and Tom for short, but if you do even Abby, Tom and Sam is such a cute set. I also think the SS thing is not a problem.
Nothing against Charles, as it's also a good solid name, I just feel Samuel will work better in your case

Thank you for your ideas - knowledgable nameberries!
Unfortunately, like most people, there are a few names that we like that are out because they are already used by family and firends eg James, Henry, Edward. So that has eliminated a few options. Others we considered are William nn Will and Benjamin nn Ben.
I had also queried the SS (first and second name) and am ok with it. We do call the them Abby and Tom for short and I agree with your suggestions Abby, Tom and Sam seem to go together. I have always liked Charles nn Charlie too. Does it seem out of place Abby, Tom and Charlie?
