I always think of Gavin "Spinner" Mason, a past-character on Degrassi <3 I would never use the name, but I'm not opposed to it

I'm with your Aussie husband. Very dated and fairly bogan, I'm afraid.

I love Gavin, it was one of my top names for a boy a few years back.

This is a really obscure association, I'm certain, but every time I hear the name Gavin all I can think is that creepy-crawly cockroach from Homestar Runner. Frankly, I don't care how cute or adorable a baby Gavin may seem, that "pest" association will never leave me.

I feel like the odd one out who doesn't like it! Gavin is very 90's to me (probably because of Degrassi) and I just dont' care for the sound. It's in the same ranks as Kevin and Kenneth for me: dated and sort of bleh. Sorry if that was harsh!

    It's funny because I'm a 90's baby. xD! I'm right at the border 1989.
Thank you everyone for your thoughts on the name. I think I'm going to still keep the name and keep in the list.
