Reading "A Room with a View" has tainted Charlotte, but not beyond use. I also used to really like Lolita, but that's still too connected to the novel. Jasper too. I can't get past Twilight. Oh! And Hermione is so connected to Harry Potter that should I ever use it, I'd just get Hermione Granger refrerences.
I also have to second Willoughby- such a handsome name, yet such a putz...

Hmm, I'm not sure, really. Most of the books I read don't have super-awful people in it, haha, but I write stories, and some of the bad-guy names get ruined for me for a long time. There is this awful bad guy in this one story I wrote, his name was Liam Henry, and he was basically this terrorist associated with the IRA (the Irish IRA, not the tax company, lol!) and al-Qaida, and he targeted American soldiers, etc., he was just pure evil, so I was put off of Liam for the longest time. I sort of like it again now, but it'll always seem a bit sinister to me because of that.

Many named I like are in famous books as well, but it's not enough to ruin them for me. These things can only stay culturally relevant for so long.

I love the name Grey or Gray especially as a boy's middle name but I really don't think I can use it now after the 50 shades mania. Wouldn't want people to think I was naming my son after Christian Grey or that I'd thought of the name because of the book. Perhaps in a few years it will be useable but not right now as baby was conceived right in the middle of all the hype.
