Well it's the German word for "blessed". It's not a name in Germany, since word names are very uncommon and often not even allowed here, I mean as first names. Selig probably is used as a surname. The history? Well since it's not really a name but a word, I guess that's the history.
The pronunciation is something between "SEH-lig" and "SEH-lich" (German "ch", a sound that you don't have and I have no idea how to describe"
