For all you English berries out there (and anyone else into this years Olympics). I wonder if there is any names out there that are inspired by this years Olympics that we are hosting. (Woop!!!Woop!!!) What if your child was born on the opening ceremony or the day that England wins a gold medal??? Is there any good athlete names out there and would you dare to name your child something to do with the Olympics??? This thread is for discussing and suggesting names to do with the Olympics and to get excited about the next few weeks. I for one am extremely excited!!!

i am also exicted, whirligig.I'm beenwaiting for the games for years now. i also have two tickets, once to a semi-final of the Women's football and another to the final of the women's boxing.

In Ireland, out biggest medal hope I'd say is Katie Taylor. So if she wins gold in the women's boxing, I wouldn't be surprised if both Katie and Taylor rise in the irish top 100!

Other Irish athlets with names I'd be interested in are:
Olive Loughnane, Gráinne Murphy and Aileen Morrison.

BritishAthletes names that i lovem that are slightly unusual, are:
Dai (Greene), Philips (Idowu), Perri (Shakes-Drayton), Goldie (Sayers), Imogen (Bankier)+(Cairns), Ettiene (Scott), Ashley [male] (McKenzie), Bryony (Shaw), Ieuan (Lloyd), Yvette (Baker), Asha (Randell)/.

America Athletes names that i love are:
Aretha (Thurmond), Carmelo (Anthony), Errol (spence) [love his FN], Dotsie (Bausch), McKayla (Maroney), Esther (Lofgren), Cullen (Jones), Shea (Buckner), Elsie (windes), Ellis (Coleman),
Top Girls: Tessa, Audrey, Joyce nn Joy, Harriet, Lynn, Regina nn Reggie, Diana, Ivy, Anthea NN Thea
Top Boys: Theodore nn Theo, Quade, Miles, Cormac, Keith, Isaac, Jude, Flynn, Max.

Irish name Indulgances: Donncha, Padraig, Méabh, Gráinne.

I also have tickets to see beach volleyball, hockey and athletics.Really wanted to see gymnastics but there was no tickets left.
My favourite names off your athletes list are Olive and Esther. I'm going to do more research into athlete names and get back to the forum with some good ones.

whirligig, Méabh is pronounced just as Maeve is (rhymes with save).
there are multiple spellings of the name in Ireland:
the old irish spelling is Medb
the middle irish spelling is: Meḋḃ or Meaḋḃ with the dots representing 'h', which gave rise to the spellings of Medhbh and Meadhbh.
the reformed irish spelling (current irish) is Méabh.
    Anglicised spelling is Maeve.

so, in few words: many spelling but Méabh is my outright favourite unless I move to a foreign country in the future where I'll consider Maeve!
