    Wilhelmina or Louisa

    Hi everyone,

I've posted before about Beatrice/Beatrix/Mabel/Louisa for our December baby. We've really grown to love Louisa and feel it suits our style perfectly.

We've also really fallen in love with the name Wilhelmina, nn Willa. I've loved this name all along but have ignored it because our last name is a one syllable W word...Rhymes with "Goods." (I'm sure you can figure that one out!) However, I've recently told several people about Willa and they think it sounds great so I'm totally rethinking it!

What do you think? Knowing our last name, do you think that the name Wilhelmina W--ds is too much? Or is it cute? Especially if she will be primarily going by Willa....Willa W--ds.

We would want a simpler, less "unique" middle name to balance Wilhelmina out (and obviously not a W name!) Any ideas?

So which do you like better and why?

    Louisa Marguerite W--ds

    OR

    Wilhelmina _____ W--ds (nn Willa)

(BTW if baby is a boy his name will likely be Theodore nn Theo)

I love, love Louisa Marguerite. I think it's pretty, classic, and will stand out but fit in at the same time.

I love Willa, more than Wilhelmina...not sure if it goes well with your last name. I was more open to alliteration with our last name than my husband, but not totally confident about it. It does make for a memorable name, however.

I like Wilhelmina Woods, I think it sounds good. I also thing Renee would be a good middle name...some other combos

Wilhelmina Eileen...now that i hear this I really like it

sorry I couldn't think of any to top Wilhelmina Eileen.

I also like Louisa Marguerite, but I like Wilhelmina better. I think whatever you pick will be beautiful.

Louisa Marguerite is very pretty, I like that a bit more the Wilhelmina, especially with a last name begining with W. Wilhelmina Eliza would be a pretty combination.

I love Louisa. I don't love Wilhelmina, although I've grown more open to it. I like Willa quite well. I don't have anything against alliteration per se, but I don't love these names with your last name. It's doable, not cringeworthy, but I think a bit much still. I vote Louisa. Great name! If you like the sound of Willa, perhaps Lula can be a nn for you for?

I love the combo Louisa Marguerite!

Thanks for the feedback! So far I like Mae as a middle name for Wilhelmina.

    Wilhelmina Mae W--ds

    What do you think?

What about spelling? It should be spelled correctly, right? My mom is trying to tell me that people won't know how to pronounce it or will think that I made the spelling up if I spell it correctly....I disagree and think it's silly to "dumb it down" for people who aren't familiar with the proper spelling.

I like them both. How about Wilhelmina Louise W[you-know-what].
Mother of Gideon Bernard (4/30/09) and Sylvie Louise (9/26/11).

Both names are NMS. I hear a lot of names with '-lou-' in it, but it is still pretty.

When I was five, I wrote a short story on an odd squirrel called Wilhelmina.

I really don't know which one I prefer, but I do like the sound to Wilhelmina Mae W---.
