Thoughts on these names
So. I'm from Denmark, my husband is American. We are currently living in Denmark, but might move back to the US if we get a good opportunity to do so.
Originally, before meeting my husband and realizing I needed to look at names that would work in English as well, I liked Norse names like Asbjørn, Björk, Rán, Aslak, Silfá and things like that. A lot of these really don't work out, and I am OK with that and moving on.
I really like names that are vintage, quirky, old-ladyesque, interesting, classic.
What do you think of these names - how would you pair them in a sibset of 4 (2 boys, 2 girls) and what to do for middle names (I want to use James for a middle name for a boy, and possibly Jane for a girl).
Girls:
Ada
Agnes
Alva
Ava
Beatrice
Dagmar
Ebba
Ella
Ellinor/Eleanor
Elvira
Fiona
Flora
Freya
Frida
Hazel
Hedvig
Iris
Lily
Mabel
Martha
Margaret
Nora
Rosa
Scarlett
Willa
Wilma
Viola
Boys:
Alfred
Alvin
Arthur
Arvid
Bertil
Carl
Eigil prn. (Eye - gill)
Elliot
Emmett
Harald/Harold
Hugo
Konrad
Otto
Oscar
Sylvester
Viggo
Walter
Wilbur
William
Wilfred
I generally don't like Biblical names or names that start with a "J", but would love to hear your suggestions that you think go with my style of names. I don't like anything with "bel" or "belle".
I only want one middle name, the last name is French, starts with an "M" and rhymes with champagne.
I can't wait to hear your thoughts and suggestions

Thank you for your suggestions!! I like them a lot, quite a few are taken off the list for not working in Danish. I like Alice, that will be added to the list. So will Henry which I really like, and I like Harry as a nn for it.
It is funny - you hit the spot. Beatrice and Ellinor are my two favorite names. Ellinor only works spelled with two "L"s in Danish, so it would have to be this spelling. Walter and Hugo are my favorite boy's names, but I don't think my husband would go for Hugo. Elias is a little too biblical sounding for me.
I am excited to hear more opinions as to how the names sound to the native English speaking ear.

Ada, Beatrice, Flora, Hazel, Iris, Lily, Mabel, Martha, Nora, Willa, & Viola are all really great girls names.
Some favourite combos: Beatrice Lily, Hazel Nora, Viola Beatrice, and Martha Iris.
Boys: Arthur, Emmett, Konrad, and William are my favourites.
I think my favourite boy combos are Emmett William and Arthur Konrad.

July 22nd, 2012 07:12 PM #11Mother of three teenagers: (1) Daniel Glen, (2) Timothy Austin, and (3) Rebecca Jane... all middle names honor family... 3rd generation mn Jane. (A second girl would have been Susanna Eve and a third boy, maybe Isaac...)
