WDYT: Is it alright to give 2 mn's for a son and when your daughter only has 1?

    Hi all,

Just wondering what people's opinions are: Do you think it is alright to give a son two middle names when your daughter only has one? My daugther's name is from my husband's side (she only has one mn) and if we have a son in September, my DH wants to pass on his mn (family tradition) but I also would like to have a mn from my families side....wdyt...is it unfair to give one two mn and not the other?

I'm pretty sure a lot of men have/had two but most women have one....right? I've never really thought about it before.

    Thanks for your opinions!

I think it's fine. I think it also saves a spot someday for if your daughter gets married and wants to turn her maiden name into a middle name without getting rid of her middle name. I got rid of my middle name and took my maiden as my middle when I got married, and now I kinda wish I'd kept both . Anyway, again, I think it's just fine!

I honestly don't think it's a problem either - I've always been under the impression that the majority of people, regardless of gender, only have one mn (especially if you discount people who have their mum's maiden name as a second mn), but I do know more boys with two mn's than girls.

That's how it is with me and my brother. I have one middle name, Louise, which is my aunt's name. My brother has two middle names, Gordon Loder. Gordon is my mom's father, and on my dad's side it's tradition for boys to have middle name Loder. Maybe it's because I grew up with it, but it doesn't bother me at all.

Thanks everyone! Especially Erinlw, I really appreciate hearing from a sister with only one name. I figured it wouldn't be a big deal, but I never had a brother so I don't know!

    Cheers everyone,
    Lauren
